With well over a decade of experience, Kelvin Melton has proven himself as a visionary in the cannabis industry.

His career began in construction as a welder and ironworker; however, once he discovered his dexterity for automation and controls, it was time to use his knowledge and skillset for something bigger. He loves being a part of an industry that pushes boundaries, has exponential growth, and whose impact will be felt forever.

Kelvin formed his values of structure, respect, teamwork, ingenuity, and growth throughout decades of focused innovation and hard work. To this day he continues to implement these values in his own business.

In 2013 Kelvin started Universal Controls, LLC located in Denver, Colorado. Universal Controls designs, manufactures, installs, and services automated CO2 safety and enrichment, environmental, irrigation, and nutrient injection control systems for indoor and greenhouse facilities.


Starting out assembling and programming systems in his garage, Kelvin has now grown his team into an industry leading force. He has been able to lead his team of highly skilled and innovative professionals to create a turn-key solution for cannabis growing and processing facilities. Beginning with design and guiding his clients all the way through commissioning, Universal Controls’ system are the most robust and complete solutions on the market.


When it comes to safety, Kelvin in the first name in the business due to this relationship with local fire departments. His early collaboration with fire department decision makers lead to the development of CO2 system designs, plans, and standards. To this day his impact can be seen throughout the nation as fire codes continue to prioritize the safety of facility staff and first responders.
